To celebrate New Year’s Day, we went on a driving tour of Dingle Peninsula, making several stops at interesting sites along the way. The first stop was the Celtic Museum. Above is a photo of a woolly mammoth skull from the Celtic Museum. It was brought up in a fisherman’s net in the North Sea.

The sign saying “HOLD BABY LAMBS” got our attention!
This is one of the Beehive Huts from the Iron Age, similar to the one they used in filming the most recent Star Wars movie.

Slea Head Cliff, from here you can see the Blasket Islands, which are the westernmost part of Europe.
The view was truly stunning! The pictures don’t do it justice!

The end of the scenic drive to the Gallarus Oratory had this beautiful view!
Gallarus Oratory – built in the 7th century, with all the rocks slightly tilted downward so that the rain rolls down and never comes inside.
Nora loved the daisies.
At the end of the drive, we arrived back in Dingle and headed to the famous Murphy’s Ice Cream Shop for the daily special: Fudge Brownie, YUM!

  4. The wooly mammoth skull is super cool and really big! Love seeing the kids enjoying themselves! Was Murphys ice cream as good as our original in Spring Lake Heights, where Aunt Jacquie worked as a teen?

  5. It looks like a perfect day on Dingle Peninsula! Ancient people had such skills to use sparse natural resources to build waterproof shelters. Inspiring! Slea Head= as they say, America is the next parish over. Slainte!
